SECOND   WEEK
Sixth Schoolday

          The upper right square block of the Torah of
the   alphabet   symbolizes Torah or law and culture
that are taught. Since the letters ’Alef and Bet are
the    initials    of    the   first   two   lines   of   the   ten
commandments    they   stand   for   the   law   of   the
Torah   (Halakhah),   which   Mosheh   and   his   suc-
cessors   holding   the   office   of   supreme   judge   in
the    ancient    Israelite   republic   taught   the   people
(Exodus 18, 20). The letters Gimel and Dalet "he
has retaliated and passed over our doors" give the
cue for telling the story (Haggadah) of the exodus
of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt, which is a duty
on   passover (Exodus 13, 8). The foundation-stone
of   the   Torah   of   the   ’Alef-Bet   reminds   us that
there is no law without people, no culture without
life, no life without love, and no love without sex.
Thus    the   writing-course   of   the   ancient   Israelite
republic   conceived   by its founding father Mosheh
in   the   Sinai   is   over.   On   the   seventh weekday
writing   is    prohibited   in   Israel:   Shabat   Shalom!
