TORAH   OF   THE   ALPHABET

          §   10.   Legal   and   cultural   anthropology of
antiquities   are   not   limited   to   archaeological   ex-
cavations    of    cultural    hardware,   but   concerned
with   culture being the software of human biology
and   independent of whether the original hardware
is   still   extant.   In   this respect Jewish or Israelite
law   and   culture   have preserved their vitality and
national    identity    over    almost    3500   years   re-
membering   the   final   lesson   of the Torah of the
’Alef-Bet    that   there   is   no   law   without   people
and   no   culture   without life. The truth of this is
evident   from   the   successful reconstruction of the
two   tablets   of   Mosheh   in   the original alphabet,
for   although   the   temple   may   be destroyed and
its    furniture    and   hardware   lost   for   all   times,
it   is   because   of   the   living   cultural   heritage of
the people of Israel, handed down from generation
to   generation,   that   we know with precision what
their    basic   legal   document   looked   like,   written
by    the    founding   father   of   their   republic,   and
kept   in a box made to measure by his carpenter.
